Avoidable Mistakes in the Job Interview

Over a period of time when working the same job, we tend to build work habits that can be either good or bad, but there are ways to break out of those habits if they are bad. Good habits are completely fine like the order in which you do your work, so long as it doesn't have a negative effect on the rest of your job.

For bad habits, breaking them could be difficult, but necessary. For instance, if you wait till the last minute to do a project, you need to work on prioritizing your work so you know what can be done each day. In this case, if you have a long term deadline on a project, it's best to work on it a little bit each day, rather than waiting until the last day and doing one large work load.

Also, don't develop bad habits from the beginning if you can help it. Preventing them will eliminate the need to breaking them, making the positive habits the main focus here. Once you find good habits at work, stick with those for the long haul.

Your boss at any job is exactly that -- your boss. They control what you do at a job, how much you make and, of course, if you even have a job there. So when they tell you something, there are certain responses that definitely won't please them and you should avoid saying them at all times.

First of all, one of the worst things you can say to your boss is, "It's not my job to do it," because you're already talking back in that situation. Secondly, if the boss tells you to do something, it is always your job to do it even if it wasn't listed in the job description. Working extra and doing things you don't normally do will actually help you, as well.

You also don't want to tell your boss personal things about your life. They are personal for a reason and they should remain that way because you don't want your boss' sympathy in the matter. Always remember there are things that your boss doesn't need to hear from you.

There are certain things that employees do that bosses hate to deal with because it shows them a lack of hard work and interest in the job. These little annoyances need to be avoided at all costs if you want to keep your job and avoid being on the boss' bad side.

Office drama is the first big no-no because of the kind of problems it can cause throughout the team. Do not be the kind of employee that gossips about everyone and talks about people behind their backs. This also goes for office romance because that opens up another problem that bosses just don't want to -- or have time to -- deal with.

Don't be a prankster, either. There are plenty of people that like to have fun, but at the work place, it's not something you want to do and could ultimately lead to you losing a job. Some pranks have gone too far and made it so the employee on the receiving end quit in which case the company loses two employees after they fire you.

As an employee of a company, you never want to be content with doing 'just enough' because that makes it harder for you to stand out. Have you ever worked for an employer and they asked you to complete a task that may not have been in your job description? What did you do?

If you take the time to learn the new task and go the extra mile, it will pay dividends for the company and for you because the company gets a hard worker and you get the recognition of a possible promotion and raise.

The extra mile is the road to success that you want to take. It's the separating line that leads to success instead of failure and in the long run, you'll be very happy you took the extra time to do more than you were supposed to at work. You learn more, you earn more and in the end, you're happier with what you are doing with your life.

Having the ability to do more within any company will get you ahead of the rest because your hard work will pay off in the end. When it comes down to it, if you work hard and learn multiple tasks at your job, you are the person that the bosses will go to when they need things done. It's as simple as knowing everybody's job and then learning it yourself.

Hard work from employees is what makes companies better than their competitors. When employees of a company become content with where they are at, that's when they start to fall off the radar with no new clients and customers.

When you work hard, it forces everyone around you to step up their game as well and work as hard as you are in order to get the same recognition. That makes it so each person is working hard and it fuels the company to be better than any other company out there.

Part of working your way to the top in a company is standing out to your direct supervisor and to the boss of the company. They are constantly evaluating those people that are doing the best under them in order to see who is earning the shot to move up and get promoted.

If you want that promotion and all of the great perks that come along with it, you have to make sure you are being noticed in a positive way. Start with your direct supervisor and make sure he sees the work that you are doing and the effectiveness of the work. Don't seem like a suck up, though, just let them take notice of the work that is done.

When you stand out, the chances of getting the promotion rise dramatically because you are the one that the higher ups are taking notice of. You are the one getting things done and doing the best of your ability all of the time.

Moving up the corporate ladder should be a major goal for anybody that has any kind of job and wants to be successful at it. With that goal comes confidence in the ability to do great things, though, and showing that off any chance you get. For instance, being the go-to individual when it comes to the important projects that work may throw your way.

Having the confidence to take on any task will go a long way with showing the higher ups that you are eager and willing to learn, complete tasks and grow alongside the company as a whole. It shows you're not afraid to take things head on for the betterment of the company and make sure things get done properly. That kind of confidence will catch the attention of the right individuals.

You don't want to be shy about your abilities at work. If you know for a fact you can accomplish a job successfully, you offer up your services confidently and show the boss that you can be counted on. This will be the easy way up each rung of the corporate ladder.
